Church Tech: Why Have Technology in Ministry: Multiple Listening

Church Tech: Why Have Technology in Ministry: Multiple Listening

#churchtech #technology #sermons #retention #forgetting #jesustweeters

What could Internet and media technologies have to do with church ministries?

Can Internet and media technologies be used for spiritual outreach ministries?

Introduction. Church tech is providing Christians greater opportunities to spread God’s Word more than any other time in history. Internet and media technologies for distributing His Word and ministry messages have never been easier. Is it OK to use technology for ministry purposes? Why not! I call these opportunities “God Ideas.” We should all be like David VanKoevering, co-originator of digitized keyboard sound with Robert Moog and brilliant inventor of digitized sound, who has for his lifelong motto, “I have no right to lose a God Idea!”

Neglect of Use. However, despite these great communication opportunities, Christians mostly default the Internet and technology to the enemy simply through neglect of use. God predicted this in Amos 8:11-12, “Behold, the days come…, [there will be] a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD [Truth]: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run back and forth to seek [Truth], and shall not find it.”

Christians Have the Answers. How can Christians solve the Truth famine? How about something as simple as purposeful, intentional DISTRIBUTION? Among various solutions to the Truth famine are: (1) multiple listening to God’s Word and recorded messages; (2) effective teaching, learning, memory, and accountability; (3) Christian stewardship; and (4) Kingdom responsibility to do our part with purposeful decisions by church and spiritual leaders to partner for a Kingdom Transformation across areas, regions, counties, provinces, states, and nations.

One Church Cannot Do It Alone. As one wise pastor from Toronto, CN said, “It takes a city-wide church to affect a city-wide transformation.” With that in mind, I make a call to all churches and Christians reading this to consider banding together. Lay down all your small sectarian differences, and major on the primary principles of God’s Kingdom—the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. Get together with churches in your area, and together plan outreach for your region. Be sure the Great Commandment is first in your heart, as you cannot do the Great Commission without first having love! As a three cord rope is not broken, Jesus, your churches, and Kingdom make a three cord rope (Ecclesiastes 4:12). We, here at Kingdom, Inc., can help you make the difficult easy—Technology to Serve Your Ministries! (Article cont’d.)

Kingdom.Com — Multiple Listening!

Contacting Kingdom is Special. Have you ever noticed that when you contact Kingdom, Inc. you receive spiritual encouragement and outreach “how to’s” more than simply a sales person attempting to sell supplies or equipment? There is a definite reason for this!

Kingdom, Inc., now celebrating its 30th Anniversary, began wit h Johnny Berguson creating and selling a 14-cassette tape horse training course based on Biblical principles for raising children. With each course, he included a free cassette of his testimony of being saved, called to be an evangelist, and a short Gospel message. Not long after, he received feedback of more than a thousand people coming to Christ through that recording! The horse course sold well and he would often sell extra blank cassettes to churches at price reductions to same them money. Soon the churches started asking for duplicators and other equipment, and Kingdom, Inc. was born!

God’s Extended Family. Kingdom is more than a business just selling “things,” but an extension of the Christian family and an encouraging and educating ministry to reach others with God’s love. Johnny and Juanita Berguson and Kingdom, Inc., from the beginning until now, have a vision to make disciples within the company, within our community, and within our nation and beyond. Kingdom, Inc. is simply the means to further the Kingdom of God by making disciples everywhere.

Kingdom.Com is home for Church Tech and Church Supply Needs. Whether you are looking for CD / DVD Duplicator supplies or Communion supplies, Kingdom.Com is the place to go for the best quality products and the best quality customer support. Kingdom.Com — Multiple Listening!

——————————————–Article Continues Below——————————————-

(Article cont’d.)

Multiple Listening. Of the four previously mentioned solutions to the Truth famine, let’s consider the first one: Multiple Listening. How Important is Multiple Listening? Multiple listening is nothing more than old-fashioned repetition. Why do humans learn best by repetition?

The World’s Worst Class. Imagine with me for a moment what it would have been like to have been in Moses’ sandals coming down from Mt. Sinai. Moses had just spent 40 days with the Lord receiving all of the laws recorded in Leviticus and was instructed to teach the entirety of them to all Israelites, numbering a couple million. (Let no present teacher complain about impossibly large class sizes.) When Moses and Joshua neared the camp after they had been gone only 40 short days, they observed the people dancing naked around a golden calf and the pandemonium was as the noise of war. (Let no present teacher complain about incorrigible students and rowdy classroom behavior.) Obviously Moses recognized his need of some serious teaching pedagogy. So the Lord gave him Deuteronomy 6:6-9, “And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” God’s master teaching pedagogy (old-fashioned repetition) is as powerful and appropriate for today as it ever was for causing information to transition from short-term memory to permanent long-term memory.

Ministry Tip. We at Kingdom, Inc. have found the idea of multiple listening so valuable for God’s Kingdom that it has become one of our ministry tips to train pastors. (Have you ever noticed that when you call, we give out many ministry tips?) Many pastor or ministry leaders may ask, “Why should I record sermons for multiple listening? Isn’t that promoting myself?” The short answer is, “It has nothing to do with the speaker, but the Truth in the message. Multiple listening has the same effect as studying the same Scripture over and over!”

Five Breakout Reasons. A longer answer has five reasons.

First, pastors have exclaimed how multiple listening of their own AV library built up their personal spiritual well being. Consider what a service would be like if every member listened to the message library as much as the pastor, and arrived at the service built up to the same spiritual receptiveness?
Second, a pastor may spend an average of 20-30 hours each week on message preparation, deliver that message around an hour in length, and have listeners within minutes forget over 50%. After one hour, 66% is forgotten, and after six hours, 75% is lost (Ebbinghaus, 1913). So Before the end of the day, three-quarters is gone! Conversely, two or three hearings beyond the initial one cause retention rate to increase to about 80%.
Third, pastors and ministry leaders all over report that a third or more of their congregation are absent for any given service. Having a recorded copy of the message arrive in the mail during the week, inclusive of the service’s worship music and announcements, produces great morale and spiritual connection with absentees.
Fourth, placing the recorded message on the church’s or ministry’s website provides college students, arms servicemen and women, overseas missionaries, members’ distant relatives, and seasonal visitors the means to stay spiritually and emotionally connected. College students at secular institutions especially need a continual boosting to keep their faith from being undermined or destroyed.
Fifth, the great commission for witnessing is as easy as giving a recorded message as a “gift” to any acquaintance, waiter(ress), neighbor, or stranger. (“A gift opens the way for the giver…” Proverbs 18:16). God has given mankind great advantages with these five considerations and more.

Unfortunately it seems the enemy uses technology to spread spiritual ignorance more than God’s children use it to promote knowledge of God and His Kingdom. When Pastors and Christians lock onto the ultimate depth of ministry that technology affords, we can change the old proverb that says, “A lie makes two trips around the world before Truth gets its shoes on.”

Why you should make a Twitter if you are a church/church staff/leadership!

In today’s day and age, everyone and their dog (literally) have a social media account of some sort. Twitter being one of the most widely used social media venue is one of many social media outlets that people use on a daily basis.

From sharing what people are reading online, to what they are doing in their lives – Twitter forms a bond outside of regular social interactions – it really allows people to get to know the ‘inside story’ of what people like and do not like. Getting to ‘peek’ into celebrities’ lives is something that Twitter is most popular for. Following businesses in hopes of scoring something for free on their next give away. It is really a place of interaction and bonding like we’ve never seen before online.

Being a young Christian leader and (future full time) minister as well as a social media addict has really opened my eyes as to how we as a body need to be able to see into our leadership’s lives, not in a creepy way, but in a way that is healthy, and good. Being able to share with my life-group guys what I am reading scripture that day, as well as posting pictures of my daily goings-on has really shown my friends, blog readers, and acquaintances what I am like when I am not with them. What I am up to, how I am spreading the fame of Christ even when I am not around them.

SPONSOR- Article continues after AD____________________________

I think that we as a body need to harness the power of social media, especially Twitter. Being able to offer your church an ‘inside look’ to your life with your family – and being able to show your flock how you are living out the messages we so often tell others to follow, but so rarely do ourselves.

Now – all of this is fine and good, as long as we are smart as to what we are posting. We need to be wise, and use ALL THINGS that the Lord has given us to bring honor and glory to His name. We must watch what we post – not in a weird way – in order to bring the Lord glory in all our outlets. Being vulnerable and real is a good thing, but some things just shouldn’t be tweeted. I will leave this definition up to your own imagination.

Many pastors have already jumped on-board with this concept of harnessing social media to the good of their body. Mark Driscoll, John Piper, Frances Chan, and Matt Chandler (just to name a few) are frequent tweeters, and are awesome guys to follow. These guys use Twitter in a really great way, showing us that they are really living out the Gospel, and not just preaching it.

So, all this being said…Will you make a Twitter today? I hope you will – it really is a good thing. My warning is this: Be careful who you follow – there is some junk out there…but as long as you are cautious as to who you follow-back, you will be fine!

Lets redeem this social media outlet for the glory of Christ!
What are you waiting for? Lets make this happen!

Portable PA Sound Systems – Digital Media

#portable #sound #system http://www.kingdom.com/portable-pa-sound-systems-s/32.htm

5 Keys to Choosing a Portable Sound System!

1. Physical Size and Weight
How portable do you need your system to be? A couple of our systems are small and light enough to wear or take with your luggage on a plane. Other more powerful systems can be larger and heavier and may require some muscle to move around!

2. Number of Inputs
How many microphones or instruments do you need to connect to your portable PA? Our systems feature as many as 8 channels. If you need more inputs check out our custom sound system packages that offer more inputs while still maintaining some portability.

 3. Output Power
How much power you need depends on where and what you are using the system for. Larger rooms and outdoor environments require more power in order to be heard clearly. Classrooms and lecture halls, on the other hand, don’t require much power at all. We recommend using a system with at least 250 watts or more for larger indoor or outdoor events. If you really want to be able to reach a large crowd check out our 900 Watt System!

4. Built-in features
Many of our portable systems include features like feedback detection, EQ, digital effects. Some systems even have built-in CD players, iPod® docks, or wireless microphone systems. This allows you to be even more portable by not having to carry around a bunch of add-on pieces of equipment.

5. Built-in or Optional Battery Power
If you need to be able to take your system places where there are no electrical outlets you are going to need to run on battery power. Some of our systems feature built-in battery packs. For systems that don’t have built-in battery packs you can always add a rechargeable portable PA power pack.

Church Outreach: Effective Tip #2: Fish Bowl Ministries

Church Outreach: Effective Tip #2: Fish Bowl Ministries

#church #outreach #evangelism #cassettes #CD #DVD

Spiritual outreach comes in many different forms!

One mode of outreach is fishing.

JESUS’ FISHING ANALOGY. As any avid fisherman knows, one has to pay attention to all kinds of details to be a successful fisherman.  Details such as, time of day, temperature, location, characteristics of the water, weather, type of fish, and all variations of equipment. Jesus said to His disciples (and through them to us as well) that He was going to teach them to be fishers of men. Since many of the disciples were already fishermen by trade (a few were not), one wonders if they immediately understood the analogy, or were they thoroughly confused by applying it to catching people. Anyway, from Jesus’ day until now, fishing techniques certainly have changed, because society has changed. We can also say the pond characteristics have drastically changed. Since people are the fish, so have fish radically changed.  So, let’s go fishing here in the 21st century.

TIP #2: FISH BOWLS. Fish bowls are a great way to distribute Gospel messages and life-story messages. Simply purchase plastic fish bowls and stuff them full of great recorded messages. The recorded messages can be analog or digital, that is, on cassettes, or CDs and DVDs. Older generations will pick up the cassettes, while younger ones will go for the digital discs. Younger still even like the realm of mp3. That’s called, knowing what kind of bait applies to which kind of fish.

FISH BOWL CONTENTS. Stock the fish bowl full of five or six different recorded Gospel messages just perfect for unbelievers and believers alike. Also use life story messages. A life story message is a person’s testimony of how (s)he came to repentance and salvation, and has spiritually grown in the Lord and His Word.

FISH BOWL CHURCH MINISTRY TEAM. Form a team of church volunteers to assemble your fish bowl with recorded messages. Pray before you begin the assembly process, and pray at the end of it. Pray over all of the materials.

FISH BOWL DISTRIBUTION. Ask many places around your area, town, or city if they would permit placing a fish bowl within their premises. At present, very few established businesses refuse. Most are very amenable to having such a unique item as a fish bowl sitting nearby and very cooperative in helping to spread the good news of the Gospel. Fish bowls go easily in doctors’ lobbies, local mini-mart check-out counters, truck stop restaurants, grocery stores, near newspaper and magazine racks, and any place where people may have to sit and wait for an appointment, to name a few places. (Article cont’d.)

———————————-Article Continues Below Advertisement———————————-

Fish Bowl Outreach — Be Fishers of Men!

Fish Bowl Outreach — Be Fishers of Men!

——————————————–Article Continues Below——————————————-

(Article cont’d.)  LIFE-STORY MESSAGES.  Many notable people have recorded their life stories to feature how they came to repentance and to know the Lord. Famous people, such as, paraplegic Joni Erickson Tada, Nixon’s former special counselor Church Colson, worrld-renowned astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross, multi-million dollar businessman Grover Cannon, successful homebuilder Michael Chadwick, America’s 1986 Teacher of the Year Guy Doud, major league baseball pitcher Mike Dravecky, Galloping Gourmet Graham Kerr, basketball-great Pistol Pete Maravich, and world-renowned speaker Zig Ziglar, to name just a few. Each recording ends with an invitation by the speaker to the listener to give his/her heart to Jesus.

REGULAR RESTOCKING ROUNDS. Plan out a weekly route to check all your fish bowls, and refill each with a new supply of duplicated messages. Don’t be surprised if you receive calls in the middle of the week from any number of your places you’ve set fish bowls that all the messages are gone–the fish bowl is empty and needs to be refilled. Business proprietors may be relaying to you that patrons are wondering why the fish bowl is empty, and inquiring how soon it will be replenished. Churches and ministries have started by making a small number of copies, but found out how quickly it grew into 100s and 1000s. It’s not unusual for pastors and ministry leaders to report making over 14,000 copies in one year. Truck stops especially run out faster than most places! Just think, for every message taken, your preacher is traveling all over the country and preaching the Gospel any time of day or night, without leaving his home or office!

As you can see, the tangible benefit to having a Fish Bowl Ministry IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Church Visitor Retention: Church Friendliness

Church Visitor Retention: Church Friendliness

#church #visitors #retention #friendly

How do you treat visitors that come to your church?

Do they come back for additional visits and then eventually become members?

 Are you a “friendly” church?

What is a Friendly Church? Are you a friendly church? Of course, you are! I have not yet met an unfriendly church. However, did you know that seeing yourself through your familiar member’s eyes is a completely different perspective than seeing through unfamiliar visitor’s eyes?

A Visitor’s Testimony from a Husband and Wife. We pulled into a large, sprawling parking lot with numerous sidewalks, but because it was built in an area with lots of trees, we weren’t sure which sidewalk led to the main entrance. There were no signs to help us out, so we took a guess.  Fortunately, we guessed right. When we got to the outside front area, we were overwhelmed with such a large, unfamiliar complex. Wow, there were a lot of doors.  Which one is the correct front door? No one was standing at any door to indicate a main entrance, so we guessed again.

Inside the door, no one greeted us. We were left on our own to attend to our complete unfamiliarity with everything going on. OK, so we finally got inside the main lobby. Inside we saw a Welcome Table with information, a Refreshment area with tables, and a Concierge Center for small group Bible study sign-ups. We explored around these areas a little, but we were left entirely on our own, even to the location of the restrooms marked only by very small signs up near the ceiling on the opposite side of the lobby. From the tables, we didn’t know what we could take for free or if maybe certain materials required a donation. So being uncertain, we took nothing to stay on the safe side.

No signs of any kind directed us around. We purposefully stood in the middle of the big lobby looking around to see if anyone would walk up to us to offer assistance. Lots of people with nametags of some sort, which were too small to read at a glance, walked past us and never acknowledged our presence. No one was wearing any kind of identifying clothing.

We found our own way into the sanctuary by watching the major flow of traffic. During the service, there was a Communication Card in the bulletin, but our pre-service unfriendly experiences dissuaded us from filling it out. So we didn’t.

There were no Gift Packs for visitors. We would have loved to take something home with us by which to remember the church. We would have loved to be escorted around the church and its other buildings for an overview of their entire ministry operation. It must have been super with the numerous adjacent buildings. We would have loved to be introduced to important staff or pastors to feel like our visiting meant something to them. That would have been so honoring. But we met no one, and no one introduced themselves, except a couple who sat near us during the service. (Article cont’d.)

(Article cont’d.) Leaving the church was about as strange as when we entered it. As we pulled out of the church’s parking lot to go home, it was about the same feeling as if we had never been there. We bet, if the senior pastor and his staff had been aware of this kind of situation happening in their church, they would have been totally embarrassed.

On the other hand, if this is how we felt after having grown up in church, how would it have been if one of us was a totally unchurched, unsaved person, having never been in a church before and definitely in need of God? How many churches, big or small, leave their visitors in the same multiple levels of discomfort? How many churches have never seen themselves through their visitor’s eyes?

Self-Evaluation. Kingdom, Inc. has a wonderful Visitor Retention Program that supersedes all other visitor retention programs. While we know there are 200 plus churches closing their doors each week across the US, we have explored the top 4% of the fastest growing churches as to why they are breaking all records. Two thousand of them have field-tested, successful procedures that attract and retain visitors, and eventually assimilate them into membership.

Seven Critical Ministries. Our Visitor Retention Program helps you to evaluate in your church the seven critical ministries whereby visitors, consciously or subconsciously, decide within 7 minutes of parking whether or not they come back. Do you know these seven critical ministries? How does YOUR church rate concerning them?

Church Visitor Retention: White Elephants

Church Visitor Retention: White Elephants

#church #white elephants #visitor retention

Is there a white elephant in your church? Maybe several?

Do white elephants affect church guests for whether or not they return to visit?

What are white elephants?

What Are White Elephants? I know two categories of white elephants: (1) holiday white elephants and (2) church white elephants.

Holiday White Elephants. Ever go to a white elephant Christmas party? Usually the party-goers bring a nicely wrapped gift that looks great on the outside, but inside is an object that the giver finds utterly useless and laughable. The thing that (s)he wants to get RID of!

Church White Elephants. Have you ever heard anyone say, “There is no perfect church!” Well of course, because church is attended by imperfect people. I have heard people laughingly joke that if you find a perfect church, do not go in it because it will no longer be perfect! Usually, when church is joked about in this manner, it is because there is a white elephant (or maybe a couple) inside the church. You know, a certain problem (or problems) that everyone realizes is present, but NO ONE talks about it. That’s a white elephant!

Church Examples. The first example, on the surface, seems to be spiritual. Church members are concerned because they are losing members to nearby churches. They once were the largest, most on-fire church in town. Now they are just treading water while nearby churches have vision, direction, energy, and momentum. Members have been drawn to these other churches. Theologically, they believe that God would never allow anyone to go to hell. In fact, if you ask, they tell you that they have never met an unsaved person. Hence, they do no outreach into their surrounding area. Their pastor is the feminine gender, schooled and ordained by their denomination. Sermons given are those published by the denomination. There is an elder board of mostly Yes people, and one elder who is not afraid to discuss problems. What is their white elephant? Are there more than one?

The second example, on the surface, seems to be administrative. Strong believers come for a while, but eventually leave, in search of something more. Attrition is high, perhaps 75% or higher over the last 5-10 years. The church’s dual pastorate is a couple, husband and wife, and the church is non-denominational. They rationalize attrition as “the Lord’s pruning” to get the church ready for a higher spiritual level. One will usually hear, “The sermons are great, BUT…” “The pastors are wonderfully dedicated, BUT…” Whenever any problem is discussed, the pastors answer with, “We feel certain we are following the “rhema” Word of God and are doing nothing wrong.” There are no recognized elders or deacons. Pastoral decisions are made by consulting one other trusted couple. Different programs have been tried through the years, but eventually fizzle due to unfocused administration. The church is generally unstructured. Hence, they have no outreach into their surrounding area. They pray for “drive-bys” to unexpectedly drop in for church. What is their white elephant? Are there more than one?

How White Elephants Exist. I have seen white elephants happily exist for years. I have run across white elephants in churches, schools, and even businesses. They quite successfully thrive in closed atmospheres. White elephants are deafening in their silence as they are swept under rugs.

White Elephant Solution. A GREAT solution to white elephants is communication! Communication that is open, wholesome discussion, open-minded, honest, humble, gracious, patient, and free of defensiveness and reprimand, or negative emotions of any kind. In short, positively and proactively transparent. Every church should have a White Elephant Room, that is open to anyone on a regular schedule, attended by pastors, elders, deacons, and anyone else the Word of God describes as church leadership. White Elephant Rooms should begin with prayer and end with prayer. All leaders should be willing and lovingly open to receive anyone who comes through the door. All problems or complaints should be received as having legitimate validity, and the person presenting the problem accepted as a valuable contributor. BTW, any recitation of any problem is a reverse suggestion of how a resolution can be achieved. All solutions arrived at should be based on mutual consent of all parties concerned. This white elephant room should be so superior in wisdom and so trusted in fairness and openness, that even legal matters can be brought for resolution, as spoken of in Corinthians in the Bible. These are the beginnings of original and true ecclesia as practiced by the first century church.

Total Church Evaluation. The white elephant room is a great place for total church evaluation. Assessment is the success of any organization. Assessment reveals what is happening well, what is weak, and what is non-existent. Any weakness can be turned into a strength through broadening strengths to overtake them. There is wisdom in a multitude of counselors, and in the church, there are those with spiritual wisdom and elder qualities. (Article cont’d.)

Church Visitor Retention Introductory Webinar — Honor your visitors as Guests!

Pastor W. joined the Kingdom Visitor Retention Program and gave it one of its greatest compliments. (Actually the compliment doesn’t really go to the VRP program or its instructors, but to Pastor W. himself and his church.) About half way through the program, he commented that he had been attempting to educate his church into doing outreach and had been unsuccessful for over 10 years. But upon taking his church through the friendliness exercises, they became very friendly with visitors on the inside. Friendliness became very comfortable to do. With natural ease, they took their friendliness to the sidewalks outside the church. And voila, just like that, the whole church started doing outreach! The community was all buzzing over the changes in his church. In a few short weeks, the VRP program did what a decade of sermons was attempting to do!

(Article cont’d.)

The Kingdom Solution. We here at Kingdom have written a curriculum called the Visitor Retention Program. I know all about this program because I have been one of its instructors for the last 3 years since it began. The VRP program begins with assessing how well your church is organized concerning receiving and retaining visitors, and session by session for 12 of them, evaluates every critical ministry to reveal all your strengths and weaknesses. Open and honest communication ensues. Lots of information is presented on how weaknesses can be transformed into strengths, and how all affects visitors, regular church members, and surrounding communities. In short, your church people become so well schooled in 5-star friendliness and service within that they automatically begin to do it on the outside (outreach).

Positively or Negatively, You ARE Talked About. How would you like your church to become an outstanding beacon and well connected with your community? How would you like realtors to say to prospective home buyers, “You’ve got to buy a home near that particular church and become part of it, because what they do for our community is outstanding!!!”? Anyone can recognize lower levels of excellence such as mediocrity and poor, but can you tell me where the boundaries of the highest levels are? Our VRP program leads you on the path of never-ending excellence!

Happy Sheep are Incurable Talkers. Did you know that happy sheep are incurable talkers? The sad thing about the two churches described above is that their communities know all about their white elephants. They are much talked about outside the churches. I’ve overheard these conversations. Their white elephants are as plain to believers, unsaved, and unchurched alike as if they are painted on their outside church walls and on billboards around town. Conversely, what if your church was so positive and proactive that your members COULDN’T HELP but brag about being a member?

You CAN have both! Both insiders and outsiders bragging about your church. Which means they’re bragging on God! WANT TO KNOW MORE?

Church Visitor Retention: Hosts and Guests

Church Visitor Retention:  Hosts and Guests

#church #visitors #retention

How do you view yourself when you encounter visitors in your services? Are you just performing a greeter task, or a host who focuses on your guests’ needs?

What do you think of visitors in your services? Do they all look alike to you?

Let’s look at an answer to these questions through inviting guests to your home for a formal dinner.

Dinner Guests. Have you ever invited guests to your home for a formal, sit-down dinner? Let’s consider what you may have to do for entertaining guests for an afternoon or evening!

Special Menu. I bet one of your first thoughts is the menu. You immediately think of an entrée apart from your ordinary every day cuisine. You peruse through special recipes to find the particular one deemed suitable for your guests. During the invitation process and your guests’ acceptance, you might even have taken the time to discover some of their likes and dislikes. You plan appropriate accompanying side dishes to compliment the main entrée. At the same time, you imagine what the portions will look like on a plate, making sure you have visual variety of colors, while having a contrasting variety of tastes. You make your special drinks, such as a special coffee and ice tea, complete with all the necessary condiments. You probably also plan on serving some light hors d’oeuvres and light drinks for the time between the guests arrival and the sit-down time of the meal.

Formal Dining Room. If you live in a home that has a formal dining area, you serve your guests there, instead of possibly sitting on bar stools around your kitchen countertop, or the everyday kitchen table. You will dust and polish the dining room table and chairs. Set the table with your best tablecloth, appropriate for the season, washed and ironed, with matching cloth napkins, your best dishes, possibly china, your best glassware and silverware, and most likely, a pleasing centerpiece with candles on either side of it. You set your table service into place before the guests arrive, and arrange the chairs just so, so the well-coordinated sight of it all speaks a visual invitation to come and sit down for an enjoyable meal.

Home Atmosphere. Around your home in room after room, you sweep, polish, dust, clean, unclutter, and straighten furniture. Beds are made, clothes picked up and put away, and all manner of domestic home preparations done too numerous to mention them all. This happens a day or two before the guests arrive, with instructions to the rest of the household to help keep everything looking that way. Even the bathrooms (toilet, tub, sink, plumbing fixtures, and floor) receives a special scrubbing. A scented candle appropriate for the season is placed in the bathroom.

Food Preparation. If you do anything like my wife and I, we prepare mixes and batters a day or two before the day of the dinner. We prepare especially the recipes that taste great after the ingredients have had time to assimilate their flavors together. This applies to some side dishes and deserts. Side dishes such as ending up as hot casseroles are mixed the day before. Fresh vegetable dishes are cooked to be finished the same time as the meat entrée. The meat is put into the cooking process many hours before. We want it to be finished at the perfect time for preparing for serving while being a hot and fresh as possible. Timing is critical for a great meal as fresh as possible. The light hors d’oeuvres and light drinks have been placed in a special inviting place not too far from the where the guests enter so they’re easily seen.

Before Your Guests Arrive. Just think of all the preparations that have been made, even before the guests step up to your door and knock or ring the doorbell. Just before arrival, you light the candles in the various rooms.

Your Guests Have Arrived. Hosts greet their guests at the door, shake their hands, maybe pat them on the shoulder, and give hugs if permissible. Hosts immediately offer to take their guests’ coats and wraps in colder or inclement weather. By the way, he or she who answers the knock or doorbell is most likely the master and mistress of the home. (Article cont’d.)

Church Visitor Retention Introductory Webinar — Honor your visitors as Guests!

Pastor Joe, from Philadelphia, PA, went through Kingdom’s Visitor Retention Program of 12 online sessions. During his third session, he said he had a complaint about the program. Being the instructor, I had no idea of what he might say next. He went on to say that, after taking his church through the friendliness exercise and the community talking about the changes happening in his church, showing up to view it for themselves, first-time visitors were bringing with them additional first-time visitors. His complaint continued, that in a few weeks, he had gone from a few visitors per Sunday service to 10 or more. And then he admitted he did not yet have enough volunteers trained to follow up on 10 or more. If only every one had that same complaint! One visitor wrote something like the following on her first-time visitor’s survey card, “Ah ha, I finally found a church that puts people over itself!”

Church Visitor Retention Introductory Webinar — Honor your visitors as Guests!

——————————————–Article Continues Below——————————————-

(Article cont’d.) But if perhaps the main persons of the home can’t be at the door, then they are certainly very close by, and greet the guests within minutes of their arrival. If your guests are visiting your home for the first time, you probably show them around to acquaint them with the overall layout and especially where the bathrooms are located, and the kids’ toy room if they have little ones.

All During Their Visit. All the while your guests are visiting, they and their comfort are the major focus of your attention. You make sure they are well fed, very comfortable, very much at ease with you, and well accommodated in every manner. Best manners and best foot have been put forward in everything. You would never think of leaving them sit in the living room for an hour or two by themselves, while you go into another room and check your email. You plan everything around wanting to provide your guests with a perfectly enjoyable time of fun and fellowship, and you want their positive memory of the visit to last forever. If your guests are from another country and culture, the considerations of their visit is very much different than domestic citizens.

Goodbyes. After an afternoon or evening of great food, fun, fellowship, lots of conversation, playing board or other games, and its time for them to depart, you are reluctant to have them leave and they are reluctant to leave. So chatting and sauntering with them to the door and retrieving their coats or wraps is probably a long, drawn-out process.

Moral of Our Analogy. Think again through all the above, and ask yourself,

“Does our church do ALL THE SAME for our visiting Guests?”

“Is our thinking about traditional Greeters and Visitors, or are we intentional Hosts having Guests? Are we in every way their Hosts and they our Guests? Do we treat our Guests as if they are coming for a formal, sit-down meal? Are our Guests the complete focus of our attention all the while they are with us? Have we made every possible moment of their visit absolutely and utterly comfortable? Have we replaced everything uncomfortable or uncertain with the utmost ease and friendliness?

Want to know more? Do you know the seven critical ministries within your church that cause Guests to decide consciously or subconsciously whether or not they return for a second visit? Did you know this decision is made within seven minutes of parking? That’s long before they hear the Pastor’s sermon! Want to know more? Church Web Design: Seven Features for Community Awareness

Seven Successful Features on Page One

How important to you is your community’s awareness and knowledge of your church?

How’s your advertising–do even the unsaved and unchurched know about you?  If not, why not?

Does your website attract the attention of unchurched and unsaved people?

Start With Excellence. Approach your website with excellence. Create an indispensable site for providing information related to your church or ministry. Expose your church or ministry to the community at large, while at the same time providing a means for inviting friends and family. Churches or ministries can easily emulate how the business world utilizes the web, including sales oriented banners, and PSA (public service announcement) ticker-style messages at the top or bottom of the screen respectively.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

Pastor Blossom states that she loves her new website and that nothing was easier than working with Kingdom. Pastor Blossom specifically remarked about the level of excellence, “They worked at a high level of professional excellence and were very kind and pleasant throughout the entire design process.” Pastor Blossom also reported she is receiving calls from around her Chicago area: “Wow! The website you got is incredible!” She tells them that she got it from Kingdom.

OK to Copy the Business World? By all means! Didn’t Jesus remark in Luke 16:8 there are times when worldly people have great wisdom? How about seven successful business features for your website’s front page? The business world has website appeal, presentation, and utilization down to a science. Let’s take a few moments to look at 7 website success principles using audio, borrowed from the business world, that can be applied to your church or ministry website’s front page. The highly-successful 7 business ideas are: (1) Add audio to your “squeeze pages,” (2) Add audio to your “guarantee,” (3) Put audio testimonials on your website, (4) Record interviews and tele-seminars, (5) Create audio products on CD, (6) Create podcasts, and (7) Produce your own Internet radio show.

(1) Squeeze Page. A squeeze page (or email-capture page) is a website entry page that appears before your first page. This is the same as having a guest book in your church foyer. This allows you to follow up with personal greetings, discussions, and all kinds of visitor retention activities. Add an audio button to your squeeze page for a special pastoral welcome.

(2) Spiritual Guarantee. On the first page, add a well-worded guarantee of spiritual benefits and offered help. Add an audio button to this bit of information. Hearing the pastor say that (s)he will address the guest’s “pain points,” when, and how, is more believable than reading it.

(3) Audio Testimonies. Build website credibility by having long-standing ministry members and recently saved website visitors record audio or video testimonials. This is easily done with a simple home video camera, or laptop recording capabilities. Again, audio testimonies are far more believable than written ones, which can easily be made up.

(4) Collaborative Ministries. A great way to increase your credibility and give yourself and your spiritual organization “expert status” is to record a tele-seminar or interview with an another expert in your field such as a

(Article cont’d.) well-known minister or ministry. You can sell or give away this recording to your members and website visitors.

(5) Audio Products. Offering sermon messages on CDs gives your audio products greater perceived value than downloadable mp3 messages alone. Perceived value, which creates a desire to obtain, is also greatly increased by picturing your professional packaging. To add even more value, include on the CD a pdf transcript of the audio.

(6) Create podcasts.  Podcasts are downloadable MP3 audio files, which are normally for free, but can be sold as well. Podcasts can be promoted using RSS technology in much the same way as blogs. People will come back to your website to listen to your latest, up-to-date podcast, which content will encourage them to grow spiritually and return for more.

(7) Produce your own Internet “radio” show. To give yourself expert status and credibility, start your own online radio show specializing in your ministry expertise. You can interview other “expert” ministry leaders, record “case studies” of salvations, record people being healed and delivered, and even conduct phone-ins.

As you can see, the tangible benefit to having a ministry-focused website IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

Communion / Eucharist:  Bread and Wafers

How important is using the BEST communion supplies?

Prefilled Cups with Wafers. Communion wafers and grape juice are together in the same small container. No need to worry about sanitary considerations as they are sealed in a disposable, sanitary, single-serving container. Your church will save time and money because there is no lengthy preparation, no after communion clean up, and only the exact number of servings are perfect for any size of congregation.

Unleavened Communion Bread. This communion bread is made from a simple unleavened recipe, which is great for churches wishing to remain traditional—reminiscent of the unleavened bread of the Hebrew’s first Passover celebration before leaving Egypt.

Premium Communion Wafers. The Cavanagh Bread Company is the world’s foremost baker of fine communion breads. Wafers are available in white or whole wheat, and in diameters of 1 1/8″ and 1 3/8″. The first time you purchase Cavanaugh’s individual wafers, it is suggested you also purchase the specially-designed storage canisters. The canisters provide a crush-proof, resealable container to keep your wafers safely stored. Wafers have a 1-year shelf-life.

Perfect Sanitary Considerations. From single-serve containers, to the individual wafer host dispenser, these sanitary considerations provide ease of mind for even the strictest standards of your church members, especially during cold and flu

Bread—Wafers — Celebrating the Lord’s Passion until He comes again!

The first historical account recorded for celebrating Communion.
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Blessed will be the day when we celebrate Communion with the Lord in His Presence! “But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.” Are you looking forward to that special day?

seasons. Manufactured in a process where they are never touched by human hands, these wafers are crumble-resistant, and perfect for congregations and individuals who prefer to dip their wafers in the cup of juice or wine.

Purity Host Dispenser. The Purity Host Dispenser is a sure bet for sanitary considerations during any communion event. Only the communicant him or herself touches the wafer at any time, meaning there is no passing of germs or bacteria during cold and flu seasons. Besides the health benefits, the Purity Host Dispenser provides the benefit of dispensing 140 wafers at a time, and a fast and easy reloading. Tubes of wafers are vacuum sealed.

Visitor Retention Program: Hosts and Guests

Visitor Retention Program:  Hosts and Guests

Visitor Retention Program Introductory Webinar — Honor your visitors as Guests!

Visitor Retention Program Introductory Webinar — Honor your visitors as Guests!

“Is our thinking too much like Greeters and Visitors, or are we with intention Hosts and Guests?

Communion / Eucharist: History of: Part 3: Separated From a Meal

Communion / Eucharist: History of:

Part 3: Separated From a Meal

#communion #church #supplies #pr-filled

How have Communion practices changed over the centuries since being instituted by Jesus at the Last Supper?

How did Communion become “guarded and set apart”?

First. In the early church, leaders of the church presided at the love feast, and deacons helped serve. The idea was that these leaders were “servants of the servants of God.” Over time, typical of humans, the servant ideal turned into positions of authority rather than service, then positions of power, and then positions of state. By the Middle Ages, these posts were being bought and sold to the highest offers. The priests and bishops became keepers of the Sacraments, and if you broke church laws, you were excommunicated. Excommunication meant being prevented from taking the Sacraments, meaning, “cut off from God.”

Second. At some point, the doctrine of transubstantiation became prevalent. This is a doctrine that evolved over time, and was not universally taught for the first 5 centuries or so. (Article cont’d.)

Pre-Filled Communion Cups — Celebrate Your Freedom!

The Sacrament of Communion, or the Eucharist (which means “Thanksgiving”) is the most sacred aspect of Christian faith, the greatest mystery, the greatest sorrow, the greatest blessing, and, when examined closely, the very heart of our Lord Jesus Christ’s life and teaching. Communion is to be approached with humility, confidence, and prayer.

The early believers, taking their cue from “This is the bread of affliction,” which affliction was broken by Jesus, saw Communion as a celebration. A Communion celebration is for remembering that Jesus both broke the chains of our affliction and brought us redemption and freedom. It was not just a somber time to remember our sins and His death. While communion IS a somber time to remember our sins and Jesus’ sacrifice, it is also a celebration.

At the Last Supper, Jesus was celebrating a specific High Holy Day, called the Passover, and He gave new significance to the broken unleavened bread and the cup of wine.

Pre-Filled Communion Cups — Celebrate Your Freedom!

—————————————–Article Continues Following—————————————–

(Article cont’d.) Transubstantiation is the belief that the Communion bread and wine actually become the physical body and blood of Jesus. For this to happen, it was necessary to have a priest say the proper words and perform the proper actions.

Third. After the Protestant Reformation, the first and second points diminished in importance for Protestants, but 1400 years of church tradition did not change very quickly. Plus, the Reformers took the Communion Scriptures quite seriously that say, “Anyone who eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks judgment on him or herself.” So having only ordained Reformers give Communion became a spiritual safety net. Nowadays, most Protestant churches, in some fashion or another, allow laypeople to serve communion under the blessings of ordained clergy. Performing home communions and nursing home communions are examples.

In Review. Most likely when Jesus returns, He is going to have some choice words to say about what history and humans have done with His Sacrament. Many changes have taken place with this church ordinance since the first century church until now. But He who it all represents is The I AM, unchanging yesterday, today, and forever.

One Last Thought. Being separated from a meal has not been the only change in Communion. Jesus began the Last Supper with servant-washing the disciples’ feet, which begs two questions. Was this just a routine activity for entering a house and having a meal, like washing one’s hands? Or was it a divinely ordered part of Communion, which is presently rarely practiced?

As you can see, the spiritual benefit for Jesus’ “Family” celebrating Communion is ESSENTIAL FOR MAINTAINING A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS!

If I Only Had The Time

If I Only Had The Time

If you had a bank that credited your account each morning with $86,400 – with no balance carried from day to day – what would you do? Well, we do have such a bank…time.

Every morning it credits us with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off as “lost” whatever we have failed to use toward good purposes. It carries over no balances and allows no overdrafts.

We can’t hoard it, save it, store it, loan it or invest it. We can only use it as it arrives and leaves.

Here’s a story that drives the point home.  From First Thing Every Morning…

Arthur Berry was described by Time Magazine as “the slickest second-story man in the East,” truly one of the most famous jewel thieves of all times. In his years of crime, he committed as many as 150 burglaries and stole jewels valued between $5 and $10 million.

He seldom robbed from anyone not listed in the Social Register and often did his work in a tuxedo. On an occasion or two, when caught in the act of a crime by a victim, he charmed his way out of being reported to the police.

Like most people who engage in a life of crime, he was eventually caught, convicted and served 25 years in prison for his crimes. Following his release, he worked as a counterman in a roadside restaurant on the East Coast for $50 a week.

A newspaper reporter found him and interviewed him about his life. After telling about the thrilling episodes of his life he came to the conclusion of the interview saying, “I am not good at morals. But early in my life I was intelligent and clever, and I got along well with people.

I think I could have made something of my life, but I didn’t. So when you write the story of my life, when you tell people about all the burglaries, don’t leave out the biggest one of all… Don’t just tell them I robbed Jesse Livermore, the Wall Street Baron or the cousin of the King of England…”

“You tell them Arthur Berry robbed Arthur Berry.”

Here are six terrific truths about time:

First: Nobody can manage time. But we can manage those things that take up our time.

Second: Time is expensive. As a matter of fact, 80 percent of our day is spent on those things  that only bring us two percent of our results.

Third: Time is perishable. It cannot be saved for later use.

Fourth: Time is measurable. Everybody has the same amount of time…pauper or king. It is not how much time we have; it is how much we use.

Fifth: Time is irreplaceable. We never make back time once it is gone.

Sixth: Time is a priority. We have enough time for anything in the world, so long as it ranks high enough among our priorities.
